@wildbrad I'm impressed - you know your airplane crashes pretty well. I first got interested in aviation after the 1979 American Airlines (Flight 191) crash in Chicago, which involved a maintenance problem on the engine pylon.

@albear972 At one time, Continental even had a "Pub" complete with real wood bar and bar stools on their DC-10's and would serve dagwood sandwiches.

@bearpaw72 Yes, they would learn how to make cargo doors that wouldn't blow out and floors that wouldn't collapse from explosive decompression thanks to the DC-10

Ironically, this lounge area proved to be an asset with the early cargo door failures that happened on the DC-10 for AA... mainly that no passengers were sitting in the area where the cabin floor collapsed when the cargo door blew out, which also prevented a total failure of the flight control cables that took place later in the Turkish Airlines crash...

@WingsOTWorld I still remember the ling black contrails from jets coming out of SFO as a kid,watching the planes fly out, the long black contrails coming from the engines.I thought those were so cool though! I liked seeing the jets flying out of Alameda NAS as well.
