@ritwikbanerjee It took the Indian Railways 23 years to build less than 17 km of Kolkata metro in Phase I. And what Shutkaroo said is true. The Communists did nothing to build much needed 2nd, 3rd and more lines. The combined length of Delhi metro is 372 km, second only to London. The project was completed on time and more or less on budget. The maintenance is taken care of by private sector and is hence, top class.

@ritwikbanerjee Maybe. But Kolkata metro is far inferior in quality and was completed at 12 times the original estimated cost. The Delhi trains were mainly supplied by Bombardier but it has a factory in India. I don't see the problem with foreign enterprises if the company creates jobs in India. Kolkata needs to involve Indian private sector in development and especially maintenance. Indian companies are far more efficient than government. Hopefully, east west corridor will match up to Delhi.

@Shutkaroo Kolkata metro was the first underground transit in India, and it is, till date, the only such indigenous project in India (unlike the Delhi metro, wherein even the window pane is made by foreign enterprises). Try moving your own repugnant ass once in your lifetime before blaming everything on the "system" .

ITS A SHAME FROM KOLKATTA GOVT - thry never built any more lines for this kolkatta.
For a high population city they have a one metro line.
Shame to communist on keeping west bengal backward...
