Part 3!

Downstairs, Mikey was on the floor, absorbed with his blocks. I poked his arm, sitting down beside him, "Hey you." Mikey was three, with sandy blond hair and rosy cheeks.
His green eyes immediately lit up, warming my heart. "Charlie!" his mouth spread across his face, wrapping his arms around my neck. I pulled him into my lap and hugged him back.
"Did you have fun today with momma?"
He paused, gathering up his words, "Yes... But I wish you came too..."
"I'm sorry, kiddo. Maybe I can come next time, okay?"
"Okay!" he jumped off my lap. "We play board game?"
I smiled at how he still didn't speak properly, "Sure, go pick one out." He hopped up and skipped over to the cabinet. "Candy Land?" I scanned the box in his tiny hands
"Yes. It's my favorite." A giggle escaped his throat as he fell back onto his butt, playing with his toes while I set up the game.

The days were getting shorter and it was cooling down the slightest bit. It had been three weeks since I decided to stop lying around, and actually do something. Shortly after I started getting out of the house, or even just out of my room, my nightmares stop. I never really thought much about it. I just hoped my life was returning back to normal.

I snuggled into my bed, immediately falling into a deep sleep...

***
A blaring noise woke me from my sleep. Sweat trickled down my body, as I gasped for air. Swinging my feet over the side, I got out of bed and open the hotel door. Down the hall, I saw something that made my heart double over and pound twice as hard, twice as fast. Orange, red, blazing and all, a fire was a dragon burning down the walls. I dashed back into the room and peered through the window. Crowds of people were outside, shivering from the crisp December air, glancing up at the burning Winecoff Hotel in Atlanta. Fast as lightning I was zooming down the hallway, the fire edging closer to my hotel room. Whizzing past the doors, I faintly heard banging and cries behind one. Quickly backpedaling, I put my ear to the door. Tiny fist were hitting it against it, begging to be set free. I pounded back, "Hello! Can you hear me!?"

"Help me! Help!" a small voice whimpered. I frantically looked around, but everyone else was trying to get themselves free. I jiggled the handle, trying to set it free, but it stayed locked. Searching through my hair, I pulled out a bobby pin, my shaking hand shoving it into the keyhole.

"Stand back!" I cautiously opened the door and ran in, scooping up the petite girl and charging back down the hallway. A minute later and the fire would have engulfed us. Stumbling down the steps, I kept the girl close to my chest. Bursting through the door, the brisk wind hit us and I pulled her closer. Safely away from the fire I look down at her, "Are you okay?" She glanced up at me, her big, brown eyes full with tears. She didn't answer me except for mumbling a 'Thank you' after wrapping her arms around me. Everyone stood around, watching the firemen helplessly try to put out the burning building, before it tumbled to the ground.
