  • Great video. Although I'm dabling in 'O' gauge, I do love to watch live steamers running. Probably stems from living next door to a chap who made 5" locos as a child. Unfortunately he passed away when I was nine or ten. My mother would take me round to see the new loco he had just made, pride of place on the strengthend and enlarged mantlepiece in his front room. His other locos were on tables, stands also in his front room. Great video, thanks

The art of coal firing at this level of operations requires good fuel and a proper draft without those aspects one is domed. On the plus side nothing in the hobby bets the experience of running with a true to nature setup of firing a locomotive.

  • We can fire for over an hour. The refueling is an ongoing process as one does not want to create air pockets that would allow the fire to cool down thus "loose" steam.

  • We make them when we do coal conversions.

  • No sound do to a conversation that was ongoing during the fire up. So, word bubbles instead as one can stop/pause and read vs. rewind and try to listen to a point of technique.
