January 3, 2010 - Sun grazing comet approaches

December 30, 2009, an Australian astronomer looking over STEREO-A Satellite data discovers a comet. January 3, 2010, the comet grazes our sun. Venus is shown orbiting our sun from right to left in LASCO coronagraph C3.

Another notable event taking place on today's date, Jan 3, 2010, is the annual Quadrantid meteor shower. As the earth orbits around and in and out of the inclined solar plane, we pass through the quadrantid meteor band that intersects Earths orbit. This annual shower is rated strong for (ZHR) hourly observable earth meteorite rates. (Of course, if the sky is clear to view this day! ;) The apparent source for the Quadrantids showers are said to come from asteroid 2003 EH_1, which is approximately 2-3 km in magnitude.The stream is a rather narrow band that reaches the earth at high intensities. On January 3 of each year, half of the peak intensity of this shower takes place.over roughly 8 hours.

This video has a much better scope of the sun events witnessed by STEREO satellites A and B. It includes the full month of January sun and impact events! well you guys just see the comet? because there is something else flying across sort of like chasing the comet take a good look? the comet fly upwards and the UFO flys straight across the screen almost costing a collision!
