Thousands attended a jobs fair at Cobo Hall in Detroit, hoping for a job prospect. Many were disappointed that they weren't even given the opportunity to interview after standing in line. The WSWS spoke to several attendees.
where have these ppl been? asleep for the last 20 yrs? all over the country, hell all over the world, its been like this for a loooooong time. ppl just been in serious denial for a very very long time. they believe what the tv tells them and not whats been going on in their own actual life experience.
Online applications are retarded! Huge companies need to rethink their hiring process better to be more localized because you have great applicants' applications winding up in the trash at a regional office somewhere. I have an associates degree in electronics. I have applied to Radio Shack, Best Buy / Geek Squad, Copps, U.S. Cellular, AT&T, etc. and I have never heard anything from these companies. I bet someone with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering could not get an interview.
These employers are simply screening people by looks. If you dont "look" like you fit the criteria, you will be told to go to the website. If youre old, fat, dirty, have bad grammar or just dont look like a candidate, they wont bother. It saves the employer time and money by not having to call people for interviews who only end up wasting the employers time. This way, they can get 500 people at once walk in the door, and maybe pick one or two. Its a scam. I would never go to one.
This is NOT the first time people (including myself ) have been duped into attending these so called "job fairs" in Detroit. I attended a "Skilled Trades" job fair in Detroit a few weeks back. All these employers are doing is "going thru the motions" to look as tho they are hiring inner city residents to satisfy govt mandates. When you arrive for a F2F "interview", you'll be told to leave your name , or go to "X" website. They divert people that they do not like. Its a screening process..
I can leave but choose not to , Detroit is my home I want it to survive, there are MANY GOOD HARD WORKING PEOPLE IN DETROIT. LETS NOT LET DETROIT PARISH, TO PROVE WHAT POINT!

@stacystec Jobs fairs in every city is fucked. Go get a valid college degree in a growing field, such as IT.
