Rats can climb. We have another bat (same kind of bat as Stella) that was rescued from a different facility. He had his leg chewed off by a rat while there (but is doing very well). Bats like Stella and "Pogo" are typically kept in small cages in run-down facilities, which makes it all the easier for rats to get to them.
