Goal Post Juggle

That's right--there are two requests for the Goal Post Juggle missions in the game. And that's right--there are only two of them. It looks like at least one of you wanted this to be the 100th request. I'm not sure why, but hopefully, this being the 106th request was good enough for you.

I mentioned it in "Goal Post Juggle 2," which got uploaded first, but it's worth explaining it again: At the end of each Act 1 in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, at least up until Lava Reef Zone, the goal sign would actually come floating down from the top of the screen instead of sitting there for Sonic to run past and spin. You could bounce it back up by jumping at it and receive 100 points; which direction it went depended on the angle and speed you hit it at. If Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles was standing at a proper spot where the goal post would land, a Monitor would pop up. (A tip: Pick up an Aqua Shield by standing right where the goal post lands in Angel Island Act 1.)

The goal post works the same way here, except without the bonus monitors. You do, however, get Rings each time you hit the goal ten times in a row without it touching the ground.

Since this is the first such mission in the game, it starts you off easy, with some relatively flat ground. You're free to mess around with it as you wish until you know how to get it properly moving. After that, the game tests you with increasingly uneven ground, then narrow spaces. Nothing too difficult, just time-consuming.

However, you get to feel a bit of the Crisis City heat where you see Sonic having to go arond the platform to catch the sign. After that, the path splits, where if you can plan ahead well, you'll be able to access the safe upper path, but if you make a mistake, you'll have to share your attention with Iblis Worms.

The last part has Sonic passing by the fiery tornado. Sonic has to deal with a strong headwind, then a tail wind, as well as flamethrowers coming out of the ground that effectively block Sonic's way as you have to watch the goal post head to the ground. You'll see that I messed up and caused Sonic to hit a flamethrower due to the tailwind, ruining the otherwise perfect chain.

  • If they wanted to make this really hard, it should've dropped as fast and in the same random angles as in Sonic 3. Then, people would know pain.

  • @noname76761 Except I'm pretty sure they didn't. The goal post in Sonic 3 & Knuckles was meant to be an end-of-stage bonus, whereas you're required to get it to a certain spot here.

  • since this is done. i wanna ask if i can request you play the origonal sonic the hedgehog as the next request. and i only ask for green hill zone

  • @MrMariosonicman No, I'm not accepting Sonic 1 as a request.

  • Just curious: in Sonic 3 and Knuckles, what's your highest number of goal post bounces? I think mine was five or six since I kind of stunk at juggling the goal post.

  • @Rexaura888 I think mine was around 25 or so. I usually didn't care much about juggling them unless they helped me get Monitors from the ground, so I most often just let them fall.

  • @Overhazard Yeah, I know SEGA isn't a complete sadist, but can you imagine how hard it would have to be dealing with such a random object? It would be hilarious watching people randomly jumping around trying to control it and failing miserably.

  • @9ALDO "Interesting", not "interesant"

  • interesant event, i mean challenge

  • @Rexaura888 By the way, this is a question for anyone and everyone, not just Overhazard. I'd like to see how well everyone else did. I may just have to replay the S3&K again to see if I've improved.

  • Aw, you got so close to comboing the goal post all the way to the end.
