Classical pianist Rosey Chan brings us whole new genre to the City Sessions. Born in the UK to Chinese parents, Rosey was educated at the Royal Academy of Music on a piano scholarship and then at the prestigious Royal College of Music.

It was whilst filming UK designer Saloni and her A/W 2011 collection showcase at London Fashion Week earlier this year that we met Rosey. Performing live improvised works to accompany the showcase, the magnificent ballroom of the Savile Club in London's Mayfair was filled with dreamy romantic sounds to perfectly match the opulent architecture and beautifully crafted clothes.

With a little encouragement, Rosey agreed to allow us to film her at the end of the day while the post-event clean up went on around us. A small group were mesmerised by Rosey's incredible flair and talent as her hands leapt across the keys.

Inspired by the pensive qualities of the music, Matt has collaborated with artist Phoenix for the animations that are interspersed throughout the session. Using ink and water, the vibrant colours sweep across the glossy black surface of the grand piano.

Being more accustomed to performing in large concert halls in front of large audiences, Rosey admitted she found the intimate style of the filming uncomfortable at first but embraces collaborative projects across different art forms. To that end, she has recently taken part in the contemporary arts festival, Deloitte Ignite "Just Tell The Truth", curated by director Mike Figgis at London's Royal Opera House. Featured over three days performing original compositions and improvisations and the music of Scriabin, Philip Glass, Rachmaninoff and Bach, Rosey has collaborated with dancers, performance artists and filmmakers.
