On April 15, 1992, Lisa Ziegert was abducted from her job at a gift store in Agawam, Massachusetts between 8:40 and 9:10. Her purse and jacket had been left behind. All the store lights remained on and the door was unlocked. Lisa's car was left in the parking lot overnight. Some blood was found on a wall in the store. Four days later on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1992, her body was found stabbed in the neck and sexually assaulted 300 feet from a dirt road off Route 75 in Agawam.

A full sized utility vehicle such as a Ford Bronco in a dark color, possibly red, with an external spare tire with a light cover over the tire is thought to be involved in the crime either as a witness or a suspect. A week after the murder a local car wash found a men's shirt with a blood stain on it and an eight foot piece of carpet from a truck or van stuffed inside a garbage bin. This may or may not be related to Lisa Ziegert's case.

Most LE and locals believe that this crime was committed by someone who knew the area since the area where the body was found is not a well known spot and was frequently used by people partying in the woods.

Six years after Lisa disappeared, a sixteen year old was abducted from Agawam, and was either thrown or jumped out of a car speeding down I-91. This case probably isn't related but is worth noting since it was the second girl abducted from the small town of Agawam in a relatively short period of time.

Police do have DNA evidence which can be used to identify the killer when he is found.

This case has been on, Nancy Grace, and some other crime shows but still is unsolved after 17 years.

Anyone with information on Lisa Ziegert should contact the Agawam Detective Bureau at 786-1717. Calls will be kept confidential.

  • "I wish there were more people in the world that were like her." I think that is the saddest and sweetest thing ever, from one of her students! So sad!

  • No, this case has just hit dead ends. Locals believe it was commited by someone from the area because where she was found in the woods was a place frequented by locals partying. 6 yrs later a 16 yr old was kidnapped in Agawam and was thrown or jumped from a speeding car on I-91. (don't know if it was related) They have the DNA from Lisa's killer so hopefully he will be caught one day.

  • I was watching unsolved mysteries today presented by Dennis Farrina on CBS Reality via satellite in the Isle of Man UK and felt sad about this case - She seemed like a nice lady - who was good with her students and made a difference to people. I am guessing - this crime may have been commited by a drifter or more likely someone that knew she would be alone that night - which means it could be someone living somewhere in the area who maybe watched the store or used the store sometimes

  • agawam cops butchered this case, they had it and blew it. state police were thoroughly upset. agawam cops are more obsessed trying to get teenagers in trouble.

  • @MrJNFan I'm not, but the rest of my family is.

  • @TheDaveZee I am so sorry. Time truly does fly, I can't imagine what you've been through for the last 20 years. Are you still in the Western Mass. area? I am around Greenfield area.

  • @MrJNFan No updates, unfortunately. At this point, I think our only hope is that someone comes forward with real information, or a DNA hit.

Hard to believe that it will be 20 years in just a few months.

  • @TheDaveZee Has there been any updates to this case? I live in Western Mass. and heard about this case a few months ago (I'm 16) and just came across this video again. Prayers are with the family that you have caught the person who comitted this crime.

  • @RhandiKins totally agree. it was stupid of that lady not to sense that something was wrong

  • Why the last lady to stop at the gift shop didn't call the police, or try to get some type of help is beyond me. Common sense would say if its later at night, or past closing and no one is helping you despite hearing noises and calling out, something is probably wrong. Totally sad case, hopefully one day it will be solved.

  • @shimmz22 I'm sorry, but you are completely wrong about this. COMPLETELY.

  • I find it so tiring that people attempt to use this tragedy to attack another member of the community. My family and I would appreciate all those who accuse Ed to please stop spreading completely unsubstantiated rumors.
