Let's take a look at the different kinds of cloth diapers out there. I've tried most of them and share what I do with my children, and the pros and cons I see. I prefer prefolds and nice covers, but I also cover flat diapers, fitted, pocket, all-in-ones, and put in a good word for swim diapers. See my other video if you want to know how I fold them.

With diaper covers, I didn't mention that "plastic pants" are also called "pull-ons" and can come in nice fabrics that are pretty cute. I haven't tried them. The nicest covers are made of wool, but they're also the most expensive. They are very breathable, so they're great for diaper rashes.

  • Do you use a special kind of detergent to wash your diapers with?

  • @jecissalynn Well, we actually use homemade laundry soap. I'm lucky enough to have a HE washer with a sanitizing option (we purchased the upgrade because of doing cloth diapers). It makes it really easy to wash them. I have found that using essential oils in my soap helps with the smell while they're going through. Tea Tree oil is great.

  • Great video! Thank you for making this. It is really great to see an actual person moving the dipaers around and showing the insides and sides etc. I am just researching cloth diapering at the moment and there is so much information out there and this was a really good summary with real examples of everything I have been reading about rather than just photos.

  • @kirstabelle82 I'm glad that I could help! Good luck choosing a diaper system that works for you and your family. We have never regretted using cloth.

  • What do you use to cover diapers? I've tried making pull ons with PUL fabric and 100% cotton , and they completely soaked through :( Is it better just to buy covers or do you know any reliable way to make waterproof covers? I'm a new mommy and there's such a lack of information at my town, and I just DON'T want to use disposables!

  • I have just bought Bummies covers. I don't sew, I know I could save money with covers if I could. There are some good websites out there with free patterns, and for awhile I was a member of the yahoo group "Sew-your-own-cloth-diapers" (or something like that). I left the group because I knew I wouldn't ever actually sew them, but what a fantastic resource it is for someone who could!

  • thanks 4 the info!

  • Great review! I love that you included swim diapers

  • Both the flat and prefold diapers really make nice cleaning rags

  • @TheProfessionalMom I'll look it up, thank you :)

I've done a bit a research and printed a few free patterns, but none of them seem to work.

Plus I realized that the PUL fabric isn't as waterproof as the label suggests. I'm just so frustrated.

Thanks for the tip though! I'll see if it helps :)
