  • This guys got a great voice for this song. I'm quite impressed with his English, as well. Judging solely on the comments and his other videos, I'm assuming that it's not his first language, but his accent and diction are better than most of the native English speakers I've heard.

    Keep it up!

  • Genial, mehr davon :)

  • Originally recorded and released by Phil Gentili (prior to Tower of Power). See Video Response.

  • What a great musician he is... well, Germans finally got talent, huh?

  • @nickmorgan19457 Amazing. Thank you so much! I can certainly see the charm in the much slower tempo!

  • @TGF87

Youtube won't let me post the link, but if you go to google and search for this phrase "Mama Lied by Phil Gentile", there's a link with the heading "Hit Song Radio ~ Your Place to be Heard". it's there.

It took me a bit to find this (or anything about this song).

  • Is there any way of listening to the original?

  • Bruno Müller on guitar! (Now playing with Mezzoforte)

  • Hummina, hummina, HUMMINA

  • Truth is- Mama Lied-written in '77 - the #1 hit in '80 on Boston's WBCN by Phil

Gentile/Bruce MacPherson, recorded for Wayne Wadhams/Studio B, Boston-was ORIGINALLY performed and recorded by HUMMIT which included Gentile, MacPherson and other local greats- Steve DuBois, Harry French and Bob Dulap. Matzke and Tower of Power sound great but NOBODY will ever compare to the original guys - HUMMIT.

  • Tower of Power may have recorded this, but it's my understanding that the tune was written and originally performed by a Boston-based R'n'B singer named Phil Gentile who recorded this for Epic (c. 1981), had a near-hit with it, and then became a Jehovah's Witness and refused to play anywhere alcohol was served, so Epic pulled the plug on him.
