Curing Salmon Eggs

Curing salmon eggs with brown sugar and borax. Remove skein sac and cut open to expose all of the pockets. This may take several cuts. Sprinkle in your brown sugar and then your borax. Sometimes I cut the skein into fishable chunks before I begin to cure. Once cured it is easy to just graba chunk a fish it. Skein can be fished under a float or ont he bottom. My favorite was is with a bell sinker, bead, swivel, then a snelled #1 hook, 2 marsmellows and then a chunk of skein, Salmon will hit like a bluegill.

that powder on the eggs. does it matter how much borax I put on the eggs or as long as I cover them nicely. I wouldn't be able to tie roe bags with that much powder on the eggs.

The powder is Borax, the brand is "20 Mule Team", which is the only brand that I think distributes borax. It does not matter how much you put on the eggs. The purpose is to preserve the eggs. The skein/skin that connects the eggs will become like leather and the eggs will feel the consitencey of a plastic worm. Hey quick question; I love salmon roe but I've come to realize they have to kill the salmon to get it. Is this correct? As a vegetarian, I'd quite like to know...
