@starboard189 who said she shouldnt be respected. I am referring to the myth she was unbeatable, which is BS. She was only unbeatable when it was a weak field like in 93-95. Nobody can seriously deny that was a super low point for womens 800 metre running and Mutola capatilized.
@lambielkwanfan You've provided evidence of one person able to best her, and two essentially equal to her. She raced impressively, posted impressive times, and should be respected for a long and successful career, despite "so many others" being "better" than her.
Just unbelievable !!!!!! i cant find any other word from my mouth, just so so unbelievable. She was always in her prime-time when she was a runner, never flopped in her long career.
@starboard189 at the Olympics the previous year the top 2 did 1:55 as well. Quirot has run under 1:55 twice, while Mutola never has. Quirot is better than Mutola. Quirot's accident was the only thing that allowed Mutola her rise to dominance in 93-94. Quirot is also 4-0 vs Mutola in Olympic and World competition.
to me mutola looked a lot like a man, very similar to caster semenya.some people speculated that she too,had an intersex condition.usually id have said steroids, but maria was around for so long, that roids were unlikely.
@idontsignin She was awesome when she faced shit fields with no good runners. Who was 2nd in this race, a 40 year old Gurina who had been dead last in the Olympic final only a year earlier, LOL! When up against runners like Quirot, Masterkova, Van Langlen, Formanova, and Nuritdinova at their peaks, and the young Kenyans, she was hardly so dominant.
