That means, in his case ( like mine as I am also dyslectic) that he cannot "hear" which letters are in a word.
He has to learn spelling entirely "by memory" as the process of "hearing" and translating speech to letters/words is not working properly.
That is not a scientific explanation, but an attempt to put it in "common langauage"
His intellect as well as his rhetoroical skills or grammar skills are not inflicted.
