@lilrob2469 It was built 1930-31 and as you can see, it was BEFORE the now required safety shoes, hardhats, safety vests and tie off harnesses to prevent one from falling more than just a few feel. The Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world from 1931 until Tower One of the World Trade Center was topped out in 1970. It was surpassed in 1973 when the Sears Tower in Chicago was topped out. The NEW Tower One World Trade will be the tallest when completed at 1,776 ft.

@capricious71 They had "movie" cameras in those days. They used frame by frame film but a smaller than the movies of Hollywood.16 mm rather than 32. The movie "moving picture" was invented by Thomas Edison.

God I'm a pussy

Unbelievable!! Those workers were real life heroes!! How could they do that without any safety equipment? It was God the safety "equipment" they had, nothing else! They used to walk on those steel bars as they were just 3 inches of the ground!! Absolutely sureal!! Hats off to all of them! Extraordinarily ordinary guys! Just by watching this video I feel dizzy and almost faint. Those workers did deserve a very fat pay check at the end of the month, just as a reward for their amazing courage.

so thats what true americans used to be like...i wonder what the hell happened

The thing that you never see is the crane operators that did the picks and swung in the steel to those guys. Such skill with the old waterfall winches and friction breaking they had in those times to position the beams where they wouldn't knock their crew off is beyond believe. Hats off to the crews on that job ..1930 ? Amazing !!
Surprised the building didn't collapse under the weight of their massive balls.

my girlfriends grandfather worked on that, and he was an ordinary joe soap, he dad told me , that his dad said, most of the workers on it were irish, and it just didnt register with them aout the fear, some guys were even afriad of heights, but just blanked it out for a pay check.... every day they were all told to double their laces, real tight, and make sure their soles were dry, the wind sometimes came from nowhere and they had to just drop and hold tight.
