Jose Riojas originally of Little Joe and the Nuggets who played the Detroit music scene from 1959 to 1963. Jose continues to play around town 46 years later and for this Cinco de Mayo celebration was joined on stage by two percussionists, a timbale player named BeBop and Jesse Vicuna on congas. They performed the song "Oye Como Va" written by Tito Puente' and made popular by Santana.

Jose can be found on page 37 of Bob Harris's book "Motor City Rock and Roll of the 1960s and 70s"
Mr. Harris was in the audience as well as his son Tony "Shaking Harris" who sat in on harmonica later in the night.

The show took place May 5th 2009 at Jack's on the Water in Wyandotte. The atmosphere was wonderful with Michigan's largest outdoor tiki bar looking out at the Detroit River on a moderately cool night.

  • Jose, I have heard you, Jesse, Be-Bop and your Sax man ( Mr. Sax man, please forgive me for I cannot recall your name right now) but your band is completely awesome! You do it all from Jazz to traditional Latino to the ad lib. And you Jose, when you get the children (of all ages) up to playing the marachas and tamborines, it is so good. You inspire people. And in this day and age where inspriation is second to ethics, you stand out. May God bless you and yours on this day and always.

  • Pretty good but they could use a little more bass and keyboard to fill out the sound. Nice rhythm work.

  • Hey Jose, this great!! Love your music.
