In the centre of New Zealand's North Island, workers go in to clear 50 years worth of growth from an abandoned section of bush tramway. The Ongarue Spiral as it is known was a short but spectacular section of track, complete with bridges and cuttings, embankments and a tunnel. But the growth of bracken, gorse and trees has all but hidden it from view. The clearance is to confirm its exact location, and is the first stage of a project to create a new cycle "rail trail" based on the tramway.
Great work, will look forward to cycling the trail.

Fantastic, I rode this trail, ex tramway on my enduro motorbike in 1983 with a mate, we got as far as the first viaduct after a lot of riding and pushing out of flooded cuttings, I still have few photo's taken back then, including a waterfall across the bush valley where the tramway would eventually passed on its way into the bush.
Can't wait to ride it on my 3 meals-a-day pedal power.
