Rush Limbaugh with William Shatner

Rush Limbaugh was interviewed on William Shatner's "Raw Nerve" on A&E. In this clip of the show, Shatner asked Rush what is a conservative?

Rush said that conservatives believe in the principles that founded this country, individual liberty and the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Conservatives believe the individual is best left with the freedom to pursue the aspects of daily life. Shatner and Rush discussed the current healthcare debate in that context.

If you're like me, you may have been wondering why William Shatner would be interested in interviewing Rush and why Rush would agree to appear on his show. Shatner and Rush have something in common - tinnitus - a ringing, hissing, or buzzing in the ear that replaces normal sound.

Rush discussed how quickly he was going deaf and how scared he was that he would lose his radio career. For a month before his operation he could literally not hear himself speak while he was broadcasting.

He's attempting to find some limited affinity with Shatner's perspectives and when Shatner points out some common interest, Rush then diverts to pointing out his dissimilarity of opinion with those perspectives. It's as if, without his demagoguery, Rush would have no public identity or personal identity, this is followed by a pseudo- introspection on his part which again is not genuine but self aggrandizing. The demagoguery is the basic substance of his persona.

The campaign against Rush Limbaugh by the liberal elitists has started to make me think there is really something fishy going on. Sometimes he is misinformed but at least he's not on the side of those who want to turn the USA into a perpetual war society with new bogey-men. They killed off Osama bin Laden so they have to find a new whipping boy Joseph Kony. I really don't care if Kony is a low-life. The point is we shouldn't be in there. Leave Africa alone! Don't create Orwellian America!
