Hauntingly beautiful. Thirteenth century songs never seem to age. Just as lovely as the last time that I listened to it 800 year ago.

It's actually an old, old, old song to do with the King Arthur legend. It is about Morgan (or Morgana) le Fey's journey to Camelot, with the magic drinking horn that will prove Guinevere's falseness (she loves Lancelot), whilst Arthur is preparing for war ("My good Lord, all off to war in thy armour). Pentangle did what all great folk bands do, and took this old song, and reworked into one of the greatest folk songs of all time!

You should give Espers a try! I actually came across Pentangle by searching for something that sounds like them (even though Pentangle predates Espers by... a few decades).

There are solo releases by Pentangle singer/guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, along with The John Renbourn Group (featuring Pentangle vocalist Jacqui McShee). But for me the closest thing to Pentangle's classic folk-baroque-jazz style is the EARLY work of Clannad (e.g. Clannad 2, Dulaman, and Clannad in Concert [different from Live in Concert]). You might also enjoy Silly Wizard (try "Broom of the Cowdeknowes" and "The Loch Tay Boat Song") and Amazing Blondel ("Fantasia Lindum").

Found out about this band after hearing their music in the documentary 'Christian the Lion'. This song is absolutely stunning!

The Pentangle are quite unique in their way of arranging folk songs. If you want to hear things that sound like The Pentangle, I suggest you listen to more of them. Other folk groups, like Fairport Convention, Waterson;Carthey and Steeleye Span, are good but nothing like these guys. Another band I recommend is the current folk group Galley Beggar. The Pentangle are the greastest of all though.

You sound like you know what you're talking about. Can you suggest some other artists / songs in this style, please?
