Wow! That was pretty cool. Even though she is not a true antique like the legendary riverboat Delta Queen, she is run by real steam engines. She's not all diesel.
If you don't know about Delta Queen, please look her up. She is currently operating on lease as a floating hotel in Chattanooga, TN. She is for sale by her owners in Ohio and the scrapyards are bidding. SOLAS won't let her sail anymore overnight so her owners don't want her anymore.

They just sold her for scrap not too long ago.

@TVRM610 She burned diesel fuel in her boilers but she still was and is a steamboat.You can have conversations in the engine room,it's so much quieter than a diesel boat.

My vote goes to the Belle of Louisville as the best as she is the most authentic...close second is the Delta Queen which needs to be saved from forced retirement! Contact your senators and represenatives and encourage them to support Senator's Vonovitch and Brown of Ohio to save the Delta Queen!

She's not really a true historical steamboat, she is 100 percent diesel and was built in 1976.

Her sternwheel operates by the power of two Western rivers style reciprocating steam engines. They are not triple expansion, but rather horizontal sternwheel engines. They are run by steam, although the boilers are fired by a type of diesel fuel.

To TVRM610_You are wrong sir. The Mississippi Queen's "motivation" is as authentic, old style steamboat as can possibly be imagined. The paddlewheel is powered ONLY by high pressure steam from Bunker C/#6 fired high pressure steam boilers, there is NO DIESEL BACKUP. I suggest you spend some time researching items like this before you Parlor Talk, it does nobody any good. And yes, I know what I'm talking about, having cruised many times on the DQ, MQ and AQ...have you? How old are you?
