Each step of the Krebs Cycle, including the enzymes used at each step, set to a catchy tune :-) Great memorization tool!

  • Well start out with pyruvate

    And pyruvate dehydrogenase

    And end up with acetyl-CoA

In Step 1, we have Acetyl-CoA

    That combines with citrate synthetase

    To form citrate and CoASH

Well take the citrate we just made

    And add in some aconitase

And well end up with isocitrate

  • From isocitrate to alpha-ketoglutarate

    It takes isocitrate dehydrogenase

    From alpha-ketoglutarate were forming succinyl-CoA

And its made by alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase

Contrary to its name, succinyl-CoA synthetase

    Makes succinate from succinyl-CoA

  • Then succinate and succinate dehydrogenase

    In the inner mitochondrial membrane

React to form fumarate and FADH2

Fumarate to L-malate just takes fumarase and H2O

Oxaloacetate forms from L-malate using malate dehydrogenase

Then that oxaloacetate will combine with some acetyl-CoA

    And the cycle begins again!
