Sublimissime Lauren! What a strange and seducing voice, and what a look!
Thanks for giving us this beautiful scene from the also beautiful film To have and have not. Very beautiful songs in it too.

Andy Williams did sing this for dubbing, but that was not used. You don't have to listen long to know it's a young an untrained Bacall.

Bogie calls Bacall "Slim" because that was Director Howard Hawks' wifes nickname and she is the one that 'discovered her....Cricket is the the piano player...makes all kinds of sounds, tunes, etc., just like a "cricket", that one is "irony"!

Lauren Bacall's debut. No wonder Bogie fell for her!

But I wonder who the dark haired girl to Hoagy's left is (she's a doll) and what is she saying?

The dark haired woman is speaking in Spanish, but it is mostly drowned out by the music --- towards the end, if you are familiar with the language, you can clearly hear her saying "Mueve la cintura, chica, meuve la Cintura. Ay chamaca!" which roughly translates into "Move that waist, girl, move that waist. Oh, young girl!". It might just be my imagination, but the phrases seem to be uttered in a sensual, longing sort of way.

that might be true. but i read that the director wanted her to always have a 'low voice'. he said there was nothing more off-putting than a woman who 'screeches'. So betty had to practice talking low no matter how emotional a scene was.
