@SecularTechnology No I didnt not grow up in the muscle car era (which actually started in 62 or you could push it back to the release of the 392 Hemi in the 300C for racing in the 50's) but my Grand Parents and Great Grand Parents owned several speed shops and worked on a few dragsters others during the 30's-1978. Dont believe me on the intell go to HAMB and ask the gentlemen who raced them themselves.
@SecularTechnology No the SS Darts and Barracuda's where the SuperStock Hemi Cuda's and Darts from Hurst sold at Mopar dealerships from 68-69 which in turn where sold to the public unlike Ford, GM who only let there sponsored drivers purchase them. And no Max Wedges could not keep up with the Hemi's once they where released but they werent released until 1964/65 and even then only for special order. The Aluminum nosed Wedges could keep up which is why they where used until 66
P.S. you said Cuda/Dart SS, the only Dart SS would be a SS using a Chevy Dart engine. Also Max wedges couldn't keep up with a Hemi. Apparently you weren't alive in the Muslel car era "64-73"
Apparently you haven't been getting the correct info. If it was a Mopar it would be a take-no-prisoners Hemi, not a 6 pack, the 6 pack couldn't follow a Hemi past 65. No 'Cudas ran 10's stock. The only Muscle car to run tat close is the Yeno Camaro (which is a Copo modified by Yenco) The Cuda was one of the quickest but it managed low 13's Bias-ply. The quickest bar none was the Ford T-bolt, which came out in the early 60's. which was a basic street-tired pro-stocker.
@SecularTechnology Actually wasnt the quickest 1/4mile vehicles in the muscle car era. The fastest tested by the magazines was the 69 1/2 Roadrunner 440 sixpack on biasply 7inch wide bias ply tires at 12.9. However the 63-65 aluminum nosed Mopars with the max wedges ran in the 12s to 11's. The 68-69 Cuda/Dart SS ran in the 10's. They also made a few A990 and 70 Cuda's that ran in the 11's and 10's. In fact most of the COPO cars where slow until slicks were applied, wheel spin.
I know, I remember it. But it just so happened that by using the COPO they created the quickest 1/4 mile vehicle in the muscle car era, the COPO Camaro, ideally even the one Yenco manufactured. A book I have has the specs of how many COPO's were manufactured.
@SecularTechnology Actually it wasnt done on purpose, COPO was there for companies that needed to order fleet vehicles, like cab companies and such, and because of this they could order what they wanted. Not to many knew of this and you werent usually allowed to unless you had a few friends or knew the right forum to fill out. 400ci wasnt the only thing they banned, they banned all racing from 64-69 as well.
