In his four decades as Libya's 'Brother Leader', Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has gone from being the epitome of revolutionary chic to an eccentric statesman with entirely benign relations with the West.

Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi (Arabic: معمر القذافي‎ Muʿammar al-Qaḏḏāfī; also known as Colonel Gaddafi, has been the leader of Libya since a coup in 1969.

In February 2011, major political protests (inspired by recent similar events in Tunisia, Egypt and other parts of the Arab world), which quickly turned into a general uprising, broke out in Libya against Gaddafi's government. As of 26 February 2011, Gaddafi is reported as having lost control of much of the country.

Gaddafi's choice of bodyguards has been the subject of much media attention. His 40-member bodyguard contingent, known as the Amazonian Guard, is entirely female. All women who qualify for duty supposedly must be virgins, and are hand-picked by Gaddafi himself. They are trained in the use of firearms and martial arts at a special academy before entering service.

I love the inside of that tent, with all those warm colors and Arabesque patterns. Was it really that spacious, or the camera angle creating that effect? I enjoyed looking at Gaddafi on TV or in pictures elsewhere. He was eye candy. Some of those robes were beautiful. He was fun to watch. We know he could be brutal, and Allah will judge him fairly, looking at the fullness of his truth. God sees everything -- good, bad, beautiful and ugly. WE shouldn't be judging him. We don't know all.

God can see in Gaddafi's soul what none of us could see -- he was a deeply complex man whom we thought we could pinpoint and pigeonhole, but did any of us really know him that well? I suggest we read his book, ESCAPE TO HELL (and other stories) ... Yeah, he wrote it himself. For the sake of understanding his thought processes and the things that were in his heart ... Not perfect, but he didn't deserve such brutal torture and painful death by out-of-control thugs. I apologize to him in spirit.
