What is The Atheist Experience?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas geared at an atheist and non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin (ACA), a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

  • @Obo1426 I love science <3 I wish everyone could feel the amazingness of rational thought.

Except that same view is held by each group about the others. The fundamentalists are upset that everyone else is watering down the text, the moderates are mad that the literalists make them look crazy. My point wasn't that some fringes hide behind "christianity" it's that the different denominations are actually different. Transubstantiation, interpretations of genesis and revelation, authority to interpret the bible, canonical texts, etc are substantial differences.

"Jesus was an actual person" - where is the evidence for that? Saying that he was an actual person doesn't make the statement true.

  • @TheCoolerChannel

So was Muhammad, and many of the various Buddhas/Arhats. Doesn't meant they actually had any true divine abilities, inspiriations, and so forth.

Just look at the likes of Elvis and other people who died within the last century, look at how their fame or infamy gets inflated and exaggerated as time passes. Imagine that over a period of thousands of years paired with a FAR less imprecise means of sharing information than what we have now.

  • @ogith fuck it, this will go on untill the end of the world *looks at watch* -only 11 months left-

but Jesus was an actual person so i call that evidence

  • @TheCoolerChannel

Above all however, the concept of "god" is a claim, and like all claims, the one who argues it must offer evidence to substantiate it. Religion has failed to do this, and your line of questioning would be just as valid by replacing "God" in that sentence with "invisible molesting cosmic unicorns". Not at all.

Until the day the claims can even partially be substantiated, one is absolutely justified in not taking it seriously it in any discussion on truth.

  • @TheCoolerChannel

First one depends on what god. If it is a specific god argued by any one of the religions, then yes. If it is a base god-concept, like the one offered by deism/pantheism, then likely not, as this god is like giving the big bang a name and calling it a day

2nd, we have so far not struck upon any impediments that would make such an assumption warranted, and any such entity would frankly be an asshole

3rd, done well so far, and computers get better every day

  • @ogith realy be honest on this one. if God did create existence would science be able to prove it? new question......would God want people to know how He did it? new question........would we have the mental capacity to understand how He did it?

  • @TheCoolerChannel

I assume you talk about the Big Bang, a scientific theory with observed, testable, verifiable, and indeed falsifiable data that proves its veracity, which only gets more and more data supporting the fact that matter once came from a central point: A singularity. Cosmic background radiation, redshift, etc etc

The religious alternative has no evidence backing it, either explicit or implicit. It's "God did it", and no more. Not worth taking seriously.
