@woodscritter And yet, trains have been running with soooooooo much smoke for over 140 years, and it's still a "pristine" area. No harm done.

@videoman223 Not really weird-looking. You're seeing it on flat ground. Shortly hence it'll be pushing the coach up some stiff grades, like 1-in-4 IIRC. So the boiler's pitched to be level there, and the drive's via cog-wheel and rack.
Too bad, though, that they use such soft (oily) coal, and make sooooooo much smoke in such a pristine area.

I have no idea. Perhaps it is just designed for that exact weight load.
