cog railroad engine approaches passenger car. The engine does NOT couple to it but instead just PUSHES the car up the mountain. On the way down it backs down the mountain with the passenger car uphill from it. Breakmen keep the passenger car from running away.

  • I have no idea. Perhaps it is just designed for that exact weight load.

  • I plan to take another trip to the cog this year with the grand kids. I will have more video in High Definition so stay tuned here

  • thats a wreck....

  • @woodscritter And yet, trains have been running with soooooooo much smoke for over 140 years, and it's still a "pristine" area. No harm done.

  • @videoman223 Not really weird-looking. You're seeing it on flat ground. Shortly hence it'll be pushing the coach up some stiff grades, like 1-in-4 IIRC. So the boiler's pitched to be level there, and the drive's via cog-wheel and rack.

Too bad, though, that they use such soft (oily) coal, and make sooooooo much smoke in such a pristine area.

  • Why can't they push 2 cars up?

  • That's a cool looking steam engine. If they came with a cowcatcher, I'd totally drive one!!

  • Thats such a weird looking steam engine.

  • thats a mounten engine

  • What a strange design
