KRock - Rolling Stones - Mixed Emotions vs Not The Only One

Songwriting question.... fair use? Did one song create the other?

Background: Dropping off 2nd song demo, I was brought to speak with Osman Eralp at Atlantic Records NYC at 75 Rock: a major English rock band was re-uniting and he was leaving for England and wanted to bring them my song: "Not The Only One." Requested permission. Refused to say who the band in England was. After this - silence. Six months later, I heard "Mixed Emotions" on the radio. Hearing the chorus is felt like I'd been shot in the gut. Different verses. Chorus very similar - in cerain parts, the singing almost the same. Did one song create the other? Is the style pure Stones? The song "Not the Only One" was copyrighted 1988. Just trying to find out what really happened.

"Not the Only One" © 1988. Did the Stones have access to this song? Never have been able to prove this. If anyone knows, I'd be deeply grateful to hear more about it. Posting this now as this is the digital age of social media and "Google" search - someone - somewhere - may know missing information and want to help set the record straight.

First, "Not the only one" is a very common phrase/cliche. Nobody has a claim to that phrase. Secondly, "Mixed Emotions" was written in the Barbados with Mick and Keith writing the song together in a rehearsal space. The construction of the song is documented toward the end of "25X5".
