it's funny because it was a dumb answer to the most simplest clue on this show who in the heck would say french for france that makes no sense that's why it's funny it's called stupid game show answers for a reason and that one was a dumb answer

to sjbraden: well, you have to understand the Hollywood personalities involved. There's a class difference and a context underneath the grade-school level of the game, like when Betty White gives the word "pate" as a clue, meaning a bald man's scalp, and the contestant confuses the word with "pate," (pronounced with a long "e", can't get the accent grave character here) for goose liver.

It's a jest of relative sophistication playing down.
