  • @crespossss - the original, I think, was written by the Pine Ridge Boys in 1939. Mississippi's version, not sure when it was done. but I think it was 1963.

  • So I added this - thinking no one would ever enjoy it other than me. HA. you guys are awesome.

  • Oh my god, I've heard so many versions of this song, but none like THIS !!! *****

  • @emryanne Actually, the first version was written by the Louisianan governor Jimmy Davis in I think the 30s'. It's Louisiana's state song.

  • i have heard this song many times before but this version by John Hurt is by FARRR the best ever!!!!

  • @emryanne Oliver Hood wrote this in 1933. Jimmie Davis (former Governor of Louisiana) and Charles Mitchell hold the copyright, dated 1940. Davis used the song in his political campaigning, apparently singing it from the top of his horse. Oliver Hood lost control of his song, and late in his life wrote ‘Somebody Stole my Sunshine’. A friend told me that the tune is actually from a Ukrainian folk song.

  • This is the fifth time I've listened to this today. Honestly wouldn't have gotten through today without this song.

  • His voice sounds terrific here and his melody pickin' is great.....

  • @bikemobilerider lol .. that's what my mom thinks ... but no, I don't think him not saying gray has anything to do with racism.

  • Am I the only one that noticed he doesn't say the word "grey" (or "gray" depending on where your from) Has anyone else noticed this in other songs recorded around that era? Maybe a small protest to racial discrimination?

  • Amei...

  • Uau!
