Zoom H2 Audio Recorder Unboxing & First Test

(The HD version of this video wouldn't upload. YouTube said "An Unknown Error Has Occurred." Bah!) For all those of you like myself who shoot HD video with your DSLR or camcorder and want an external microphone to take high quality stereo audio at the same time (then sync it together--the Nikon D5000 does not have an external mic input), the Zoom H2 by Samson is the best I found for the price--about $179/149.

So here you go guys, the Zoom H2 audio recorder/portable microphone. Highly recommend it, it takes outstanding audio.

UPDATE: I found it works best on Mid gain and then bringing up the dB in your video editing program, that way you have excellent volume, but almost no background noise.

@davcoolbeans Yeah, I noticed that too! I gotta be totally honest with you though, that only happened during that one recording...I've taken many recordings since and never experienced that problem. Really weird--makes the mic sound like crap when in reality it sounds amazing and hasn't ever done that since.

Great video Zach, but once you switch over to the Zoom audio there are blips and clicking. What is that and have you figured out how to get rid of it?

@phillipduplessix Thanks! Yeah, it's odd, but it only happened to me in this video! All my other recordings with the Zoom H2 were blip and click free. Not sure why it happened in this video, but it hasn't done it since. I've had great luck and crystal clear audio with it. :)

The fact that you've an annoying clicking on the soundtrack you recorded with H2 should tell you that it kinda ruins your blog, and would be better for your standing just to re-record the last bit.

will you make any new videos? I like your work and find you very interesting, especially when you pointed out the AE lock button most people just skip over. I'm getting the Nikon D5000 and I'm glad to have seen the video a few months back.
