Gear update sound clip

Just a quick update on some of my gear and a sound clip.
The bass is a Brice Z6 sold at Rondomusic.com but this finish is discontinued I believe. I got the bass off talkbass.com for $280. It is by far the best bass I've played. The neck profile and 19mm string spacing make it handle so well. I want to get the new black one with the maple fretboard but I think they are currently sold out.

I put Bartolini XXM56m split coils in it $200 I forgot where I bought them from.

I changed the pre to a aguilar OBP-3 I got for $75 off ebay.

I am currently using Dean Markley SR2000 ML strings. I got two pair off Juststrings.com for around $85 and a free shirt.

I am using a Presonus Studio Channel preamp. They are relatively new but very nice. I was using a presonus tubepre for a while but I need a little more adjustability. The studio channel offers the same pre section as the tubepre with a VCA compressor and a 3 band semi-parametric eq with fully parametric mids. I replaced the tube with a tung-sol which sound very smooth in presonus's tube circuit. I got it new off ebay for $240

I did rebuild my cabinets and added a cts ksn-1165 compression piezo tweeter which are lovely sounding tweeters not harsh at all.

I just did a little recording to see how everything sounded. The signal chain is Bass--studio channel--usb lightsnake--audacity.

How did the stock pu's & electronics sound before your upgrade?

They were standard cheap bass sounding pickups. Kind of bland not horrible but just not anything special. Also the B and C string were really weak for some reason.

Man I need help. you said you use a lightsnake to record. I have one and i can't figure out how to use it. I use audacity for all my recording as well but, i when i play audacity just won't pick it up.

You might need to set the lightsnake as your defaul recording source. When you click the microphone near the top of the screen it should monitor your input and the light should be flashing if not go to edit--> preferences and set the recording device to the. Or go to the windows control panel, sound and speech, sound and audio devices and click on the audio tap and set "usb audio device as default recording device.

Brotha Knight, you are proof that it's not the gear, it's the player and THAT you are, a truly talented bassist. Your *ish is on the money! You were dope on the Rogue and just as dope on the Brice.

I have a Tune 6 string & plan on switching the pre to an OBO-3 too. What did it change on the bass? You know tone wise, output wise etc...?

The obp-3 is very nice pre. It brings out the natural highs and aggressiveness of your pickups. When set flat it is said to reproduce the sound of the pickups with no coloration. I've had three pre's on this bass (bartolini, artec and aguilar) and it is the best. The mid selection switch is also very useful. All in all its a good investment.

Unbelievable...great sound. I just started looking at replacing the stock 'OK' pickups on my Brice 6-string fretless and found these same pickups on ebay but wanted to know how they might sound...thanks for posting this, what a great help!

can you just plug your bass to the studio channel, then straight to an interface, or do you need a power amp for the studio channel.
