Carbide lamps are simple lamps that produce and burn acetylene which is created by the reaction of calcium carbide with water. You can see when i open the water tap, the water drips on the carbide stone which produce acetylene who goes through a pipe up to the lamp house.

  • @junits15 absolutely , Ive been a big admirer of the early brass autos' for yrs,

things were more machanical back then,

and were neat to see how thing's would work,

but in the last 60 yrs,

things are more sealed or automatic in function.

and alot simpler to deal with.

    ALOT LESS DANGEROUS.TOO!!!!!!!!!

  • Yea on all the pre 16 cars' they had the gas headlamp's and you could hear the gas burning in the body.

neat to look at and good white light but

could be dangerous to use, and messy to clean up afterward's in the carbide can.

  • whats the tank pressure in that thing get to? 2-3 PSI?
