This engine design dates back to the '30s and is probably one of the most widely used engines ever. Detroit Diesel didn't go 4 stroke until the 8.2L Fuel Miser and 6.2/6.5 L and that was in the '80s. The first class 8 they produced was the Series 60 4 stroke in the late '80s, which now has been superceded by the DD15.

@RedNeckcloud Sure, I'd sell her. She got a complete oil and filter change less than 300 miles ago too. And, I have a box of N90 injectors to goose some more power from her too. I haven't had the time to put them in yet though.

What are the whp and torque numbers like? Also ive heard two-stroke engines are like light switches, their either on (full power) or off(no power). Theirs no part throttle with any power. Just wondering if this was true and what you think?

Torque is somewhere between 900 and 1000ft/lb.
I don't think the comment regarding no part-throttle power is accurate in my experience.
Detroit's run strongest with lots of RPM.

most of the 6-71s i have had 7-9 miles to the gallon what does this one get

I'm not really sure. It doesn't use a lot compared to some other Detroit engines I've had though.
