to sing in canon is to sing the same thing in different spots, someone starts singing and four bars into the song someone comes in at the beginning while the first singer continues with the song until all people who are designated a canon are done.

JS Bach sang in choir as a boy, when his voice changed because of puberty, he turn his attention fully to musicianship, and worked most of his life as church pianist, and composer.
