I wouldn't say it's funny, more depressing and sad. The song talks about beating his wife with a hose, then trying to make it better by taking her out to dinner and buying her clothes. You get the feeling from the refrain "that's the way that the world goes round" that this sort of behaviour is expected to continue.

YES! Great song. you knocked this one out of the park! wow. I would also love to hear you do it with the capo on 5th fret like Prine does on his live CD.

Thanks! I can't finger pick like John does. I like to sing this one in D, he is doing it in the key of C when he plays capo 5 in G. Still, you make me want to give it a try, thanks again.
