This is the first time the baby lovebirds try eating "big bird food". We started offering Avicakes to them after they had their regular formula hand feeding. This is a mini milestone for the babies and as you can see, they are doing great on day 25!

  • We don't really trust our kitties around the birds either so we watch them like hawks!

  • Yep, that sounds like the kind I buy. Could you send me the link to where you buy them? Let me also know if you find any Harrisons food, that would be cool too! Thanks so much! My lovies say thank you too! :)

  • They are made by Lafeber's.They are each 8oz. and they have different ones for small medium large birds. The ones I buy are for Parakeets,Cockatiels, lovebirds and conures.Hhhhm not sure about the pellets.I will do a search on amazon later.

  • WOW that is so much cheaper! Are they the real brand of Avicakes? I will definitely have to go to Amazon. Thank you for the tip. I wonder if they also have Harrison's brand bird pellets as my birds love them too but a large bag goes for up to $35 at local pet stores and only specialty one's sell them. Never seen Harrison's at PetCo!

  • Thank you!!! Go Avicakes!! yes, pretty cheap!! thanks for the advice!

  • If you can shop online amazon you can get packages of avi cakes for Parakeets and Cockatiels 8oz a packages for under $3 each.Way cheaper than any of my local stores.

  • You can get them at Petco and most pet chain stores. I have also seen them at a lot of smaller specialty pet stores that carry bird food too. Good stuff for the birds and they all seem to eat them. A lovebird breeder told me to give it to the babies as starter "big-bird" food and they took to them right away and still eat them now. They are a bit pricey though, at about $9-$10 per bag so I only give it in small amounts as a healthy snack supplement to their other foods.

  • Where do you buy those avicakes?
