@omgbrittneylol I don't think you not being grossed out by it is the issue.

not using gloves would be an infection hazard for anything that puss comes in contact with, as well as whatever happened to be on your hands could've gotten into the wound and worsened it.

alway use gloves for hygenic reasons and make sure that the affected area and any tools used are properly sterilized as well.
