  • (3) And lastly, commonly in very Catholic families, historically it was accepted/expected for one of the sons to go into the priesthood. Oldest son would take over the business/farm. Younger would go to war, another go into priesthood. With the amount of childhood deaths and no contraceptives ? total son #s. And knowing that with 4 brothers the youngest is 2x more likely to be gay than the oldest - is it any wonder there are so many gay priests? (NO Gay -/- pedo - not what I'm saying here).

  • (2) I just wonder that in a more 'animal' world, less 'social' world whether this might be a very beneficial move to ensure more likelihood of harmony (numbers versus having to fight for reproductive rights). One of those multiple benefits for one change thing - more numbers in the group, less male in-fighting , healthier (on average) children.

  • It seems to be the number of older brothers (or more accurately number of male children carried/miscarried by the mother - not necessarily live births). NOT the amount of older sisters that seems to influence the chance of being gay. Thought to be about maternal antibodies to male children.

I wonder if this is a evolutionary move to ensure that children born to young mothers are reproductively 'healthier'. The older a mum (egg) is the less healthy the child (on average).

  • Oh dear, I am the youngest, I am a male with 5 sisters. Better not tell my wife.

  • lol, spitting image reference ftw

  • @DuhIdiot1 Yes, ancestor, not sure how I missed that.

"it doesn't follow" Its a sort of overwhelming consensus by way of sampling bias. If it were an aspect of culture or tradition with a similar history the resistance to change would just be a given. But that only pseudo-justifies bias to the point of disliking it, if you want to force conformity you're still a dick. It is after all a freedom issue, regardless of if its natural or safe or culturally acceptable.

  • @JoesephKatana You meant ancestor, of course.

But it doesn't follow from me being straight (though not interested in procreating, btw) that I should be biased against gay people. Now, in actuality we are all often biased against those with different preferences than us, but that's just us being dicks...er, assholes...uh, twats...dammit, is there no thesaurus entry here that doesn't seem like a crappy pun?

  • Caller at 1:51 makes a somewhat valid point. There's going to be a bias against homosexuality no matter what, simply because every single descendent of mine, yours, or anyone's, participated in reproductive sex of some sort.

  • I already complained during the show!!! South Africans are generally a lot more educated and open-minded. I don't even know if anyone of my friends is religious, as it's simply a non-topic.

  • where are parts 1-7?
