Italian artist Xname was artist in residence at Access Space, Sheffield, from March 23rd to 8th April, 2011, developing her electronics/intervention/performance project Noise_Objects in Public Space.
During her three weeks at Access Space she ran free workshops for creating electronic Noise Objects powered by solar panels. These are series of sculptures made of recycled material, simple electronic components and micro circuits which intertwine the hacker's philosophy - diy and intolerance towards closed systems - with the disruptive conceptual provocation of an art piece. They were placed in approporiate/inappropriate places the city (what she calls "urban insertion").
A performance of Noise Objects and a screening of this video documenting the residency took place at Access Space on Friday 8th April 5.30-8pm.
