Tub Hmoob Suab Qeej 芦笙

I love the sound of the Southeast Asian Hmong lusheng or Yunnan Miao lusheng. It is loud and goes best with the drums. The distinct part of the Non-Chinese Hmong lusheng is that the lusheng is curve unlike the Hmong Chinese lusheng which is straight.

I believe these two dancers got the curve lusheng from the Hmong in United States or Vietnam. I notice many lusheng play by the Yunnan Miao are curving now. Before it was straight.

Maybe curving is a rebellion against Han Chinese hegemony? lol... a way to say, "UP YOURS MAN!" J/K. Actually, maybe they want to be unique and have imported it. Who knows... other minorities use lusheng, so having Hmong style qeej will make them stand out.
