I built a rainwater & greywater collection system. It is 550 gallons total with a shallow well pump as well as a gravity fed spigot. I show you how I did it!

  • the only filtration I use for the greywater from the tubs & showers are sink filters from Home Depot. I do use the water on my fruit trees & garden...work great! Just need to use it within a few days, otherwise it gets a bit putrid. Thanks for your comment & rating!

  • Great looking system, and good pics too.

    IOS

  • Ha ha..thanks bamboomom! I will make sure I say "IOS"!

  • thats a nice system, makes my rainbarrel seem kinda puny!

  • Thanks for your kind compliment! Rain barrels are a gateway to this affliction! hee hee!

  • I would suggest you route your grey water directly to your fruit trees instead of mixing it with rainwater in your storage tanks. Rainwater can be stored for a long time and used when needed. Grey water is highly bio-active and should not be stored (beyond a surge tank if needed.) Your system looks well-executed and I appreciate any quality diy job but we shouldn't be promoting the mixing of rainwater (potentially drinkable) with grey water (bio-active nutrient-rich but not drinkable.)

  • Great video, well done.

  • Excellent video and a great way to help save the environment one household at a time. It would be grand to see it used on the big buildings. Then we'll some some change.

  • @99Paully123987

The problem I see with this type systemor a ground level system , is you need a pump or even 2 in some cases and since the price of electricity is 19 fold any water prices , woops there goes any savings in water as far as price goes. Now that being said you are still helping the planet but thats all your helping.

  • Hope you don't mind but I've added this video to my eco website to encourage more people to do this!

  • @adroc00 Depends on whether they contain chemicals or natural ingredients. I was just talking to my girlfriend about the need to use a glycerin based natural soap for the same purposes, instead of big box chemical garbage brands.

  • GADZOOKS! Why in tarnation would you destroy your wonderful collected rain water with gray water from your sink AND SHOWER! helloooooo??? Shower - BUTT CRACK CREME! ECOLI ALERT!!! YUCHHHHHH!

This was a great video until the gray water got plumbed into it! - too bad.

MAYBE we will see a revised system video where the builder does a little research into the toxic nature of gray water?

  • FABULOUS!!! About how much did this cost to make? Approx how much for labor if someone wanted to do it but was not skilled enough to do it? I have never heard of grey water before, just one more thing to figure out how to make it work for me. Wonderful video! Thanks! :0)

  • Isnt soap and shampoo ect. bad for trees and vegitables?

  • I've gotta second @christopherforaker's comment... I wouldn't mix greywater and (relatively) clean rainwater)... and besides, if you have any sort of sized roof plumbed to this, you probably already realize that your problem is not amount of water you can collect, but rather lack of storage... that's the problem I ran into, at least!

  • OUTSTANDING JOB!!!! DONE LIKE A PRO!!! YOUR EXAMPLE WILL HELP OTHERS,MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SAVING RESOURCES. GO GREEN! MOTHER EARTH LOVES YA....

  • @brandon7390 I have six of them for rain water collection. I found them on Craigslist for $60.00/ea.
