Are You Smarter Than a 1954 8th Grader?

Back then, kids learned what the amendments to the constitution were and they memorized its preamble. Now, kids are learning less, and nobody understands why they don't know much about citizenship and history. Could it be that they're taking the easy road and not pursuing education outside the classroom for themselves?

The same thing happens in Internet marketing. Lots of so-called "gurus" are out there preaching, "You don't need a website," "You can earn money while you're sleeping," and that "It's so easy!" that people don't even know what the right thing to do is or how hard they have to try to become successful.

First, you definitely need a website. Why? Because you need to build a list. Without a list of people who you bond with and build a relationship with, you have nobody to sell things to. You need, at minimum, a hosting account where you can upload your squeeze page, and you need an autoresponder where you house the names and email addresses for the people on your list.

Second, you can earn money while you're sleeping, but you have to do a whole lot of hard work to get to that point before it actually happens. You need to learn how to drive traffic in all its forms so that you can grow your list bigger and bigger all the time. That takes work.

Third, it's not rocket science, but it's not all that easy, either. You need to learn how to do things like buying a domain, transferring the DNS, and setting up everything just to get to the point of starting any lead generation. Then, you have to learn blogging, article marketing, search engine optimization, and all the other techniques that you can use to send traffic to build your list. It takes time and effort.

The bottom line is that you have to think of yourself as a 1954 8th grader, and not a 2009 8th grader. You have to get to the root of Internet marketing and learn the fundamentals.
