The only problem I have with this addition is that it muffles the sound of the the emperor screaming when Vader lifts him up. It's seriously like the only moment of weakness the emperor ever has, and that satisfaction of hearing him scream out as he knows he's fucked gets overtaken by this addition. Although I do like how Vader sounds, like "I'm the boss now, YOU DIE MUDDERFUGGA!"

so be it, LUCAS
if you will not stop making changes, then you will be destroyed
NOW, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE THE FULL POWER OF THE FAN SIDE

@Mysterwright Luke had to be more like Vader in order for Vader to remember and reawaken the Anakin that still dwelled in him. Ex. the McGuffin role of food in Disney's Ratatouille. How Anton Ego fully realizes why it is he got into restaurant reviewing in the first place: his Mama's Ratatouille.

@Wookiestick Actually I think he saw he fucked up with Ep. III even including the INITIAL "nooo" and got it right. Act one, Anakin says no to Mace Windu. Windu dies. Act two, Vader says no to the Emperor. Anakin "dies." Here's where it gets tricky. The false win, the one where people think the good guy has won but hasn't comes when Vader strikes down Ben Kenobi. That plotted the seed of Anakin's then inevitable redemption. Kenobi's death for reals cancelled out Anakin "dying." Luke = prestige.

@Wookiestick i sorta like it. i mean it ties together the scene sort of. it was ok before, but now its like hes getting angry you know what im sayin?
I'm convinced that Lucas is just screwing with us at this point. The scene as it existed before was incredibly powerful, Darth Vader watching his son writhing and dying under the cruel hand of his own master, seeing the evil for what it really was finally, and making the decision he did to undo some of his evil legacy and come over to the light side. It changes the tone so Vader seems to let his dark side emotion get the better of him, doing what he does out of weakness, not moral calculation.

I understand what Lucas was trying to accomplish, in that he was tying these moments to other pivotal moments in the other movies (Jinn getting stabbed, Padme's death, Luke learning his heritage, etc.
Story wise? On paper it makes sense. Aesthetically it doesn't-- it sounds stupid. Lucas must think his primarily adult audience (for the classic trilogy) must be idiots if they can't get a sense of what Vader is thinking as he looks back and forth with uncertainty

@Wookiestick I guess I don't quite understand the artistic merit of having everyone say "nooooo" at pivotal moments throughout the films. It doesn't add anything overall and especially not to this scene. In this scene especially, the addition of that dialogue actually detracted from the emotional impact, and changed the nature of the character and the meaning of the event both for the worse. You are right about it just sounding bad, too.

Lucas is huge about having echoing moments that tie in to the destiny of the mythos. Just like every film has someone saying "I have a bad feeling about this." There is a repeating patten of motifs in the movie, like Luke and Anakin getting their limbs chopped off by the villain, bad guys falling down endless shafts, Wilhelm screams etc. It's artful,in that there's a pattern to it. I also realize art is in the eye of the beholder, and not everyone feels that way.

I've read several sources that the RotJ "no" is an outtake from James Earl Jones' RotS one.
