@colonelchris92 BBC did a documentary about this years ago. They knew what they were doing because they napalmed the deck to keep them below so that they could torpedo the ship and kill everyone. I don't hate the Jewish nation, I think they should be able to live there in peace, but when someone kills 34 of my countrymen to draw America into war I call bullshit. You need to stop with the stockholm syndrome stuff, our flag was flying and they did three passes before blocking the radio signals

Another reason the Liberty was not pulled out before the attack, messaging from Command to the ship was distorted and had not broken through the mess until after the attack, into the next day. Within international waters, and just as fair a target as any, and unidentified by the U.S. government to General Yitzhak Rabin, the Liberty paid the price for poor planning, horrible communications errors, and the overall fact that they were in technically hostile waters.

Not to say it is right, but that is war, bad things happen, plans don't go as planned, and sometimes people end up dying needlessly from mistakes. The Liberty was in international waters and was not identified by our representative or our military to the Israeli government in Tel Aviv, when the war was raging, the commanding officers strictly said they would attack ANY unidentified ships within warring waters. WE failed to inform them of the Liberty doing reconnaisance of the Egyptian shores.

The attack on the USS Liberty was id'd by the Israelis as a mistaken identity of the ship, believing it the Egyptian vessel El Quseir, and paid full reparations to both the families and the United States for repair of the ship. They further apologized, which our government wholefully accepted and later noted it as friendly fire in their diplomatic notes in 1987. Although US sailors believe otherwise, they were in a hostile zone and should suspect that bad things happen, even to neutral forces.

@ChilesGreen Yet still, the Vatican is a religious nation, we don't support it because it doesn't need it, it is not in a hostile environment, and protection is provided by the Swiss troops. And you'd be surprised what the Vatican does do, although not terrorist acts, pedophiles are still worse then murderers as I have seen. Additionally, IF the Vatican were to ever be attacked and its swiss guard outnumbered, I'm almost positive that the United States would provide both to help in its endeavors
