The congregation of Croydon Unitarian Church sings a hymn composed for the service marking the fiftieth anniversary of the current church building, on 1st November 2009. Possibly the only hymn ever written which includes the words "bus station"! (The words are included in the Order of Service, here: http://www.croydonunitarians.org.uk/anniversary%20service.pdf .)

  • I can't hear the words because of the poor sound quality. Pity. It's such a lovely idea.

  • @RadicalWhig : good point, I've edited the description now to include the URL of the Order of Service.

Of course, legend has it that Unitarians are no good at singing because we're too busy looking ahead to the next line of the hymn to see whether we agree with it. (Not true, though.)

  • @CroydonUnitarians Thanks.

I've heard that saying about looking ahead to read the next line. I think I used to subconsciously do it, too. Now I find that even if I don't personally agree with the words I sing them anyway, because they might have the right meaning for someone else in the congregation. I'm learning to be broader and inclusive, not just to go around objecting to things!
