Following the landmark California Supreme Court decision allowing same-sex couples to legally marry, members of Beth Chayim Chadashim, the world's original lesbian & gay synagogue, took them up on it... in droves. Rabbi Lisa Edwards of BCC officiated at most of these ceremonies, an approximate total of 42 couples between June 17 and Election Day. The song is Since Youve Asked, written by Judy Collins, sung by Dan Fogelberg.

  • The charge of hate (along with bigotry, homophobia and intolerance) is the primary charge leveled against supporters of Prop 8.

Any honest outsider would see that virtually all the hate expressed concerning Prop 8 comes from the no on 8 crowd. I have neither seen nor heard any hatred of gays expressed by yes on 8.

No on 8 expresses nearly all the hate because many of them do hate, loudly and continuously. But hate in the name of love

    is OK with them?

YES ON 8! For the children!

  • NO ON 8! For MY children!

  • In 2000, 61 percent of the voters in Calif, one the most liberal states in America, voted to retain the only definition of marriage civilization has ever had.

in May 2008, 4 out of 7 Calif. justices decided that they would use their power to make a new definition:

Gender will now be irrelevant to marriage.

What we have here is truly manipulative. 4 justices create a right, 4 months old that no one had ever voted to create.

And you accuse the us of imposing our values on society.

    YES ON 8

  • Hmmm... where to start.

"only definition of marriage" - is this counting the one that defined the wife as her husband's property?

The fact that the California justices were largely Republican aside, note the legislature, voted in by the people of CA, have twice passed bills for gay marriage. Gov Schwarzenegger vetoed the bills. In other words, one guy vetoed the will of the legislature.

The 4 justices didn't "create" a right. They "recognized" a right.

    To be continued...

  • Continued...

Our vote in favor of gay marriage does not impose ANYTHING on you. You can continue in your heterosexual world and be in complete denial that we exist and are paying taxes and raising children and bettering the world. Your vote against gay marriage DOES affect the safety and well-being of me and my children.

  • You have my support. My girlfriend is hispanic and im African American, about 50 years ago i could not legally marry her. I understand how you must feel. It makes me sad its happening again. I hope that we can defeat this. Say no to Hate, Vote no on 8.

  • Thank you, WprEmiere1985. Tell everyone you know to VOTE NO.

  • Two men or two women can't make a baby, but they can ADOPT. Think outside the box.

  • I am so happy that so many couples finally got to have the same rights as me and my husband.

As for everyone using the Bible says this, the bible says that... How is that fair to everyone? Are there not more religions then just christianity and catholicism? What about Wiccans, Buddhists, Judisim (sp?), Atheism, Agnostics, ect? Why should everyone bow down to the beliefs of one book? When hundreds of people that don't follow said Bible get married everyday?

  • @justathought3 It should be irrelevant

  • @justathought3 I don't see how children could possible benefit from this. And I'm sorry, but you and the rest of the Prop 8 supporters have shown much more hate than the opponents.

  • YES ON 8!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just, "for the children?" What about children like me? My brothers and I were raised by two gay dads. Didn't we deserve to have our family be legally protected? If you thought about children of gay parents at all, you would probably realize that it's not good for them, psychologically or emotionally, to be forced to endure a political campaign in which they repeatedly saw the legitimacy of their families denied and their very existence called into question.

  • Guy, this argument comes up over and over and over. As I would like to point out for the millionth time, banning gay marriage will *not* stop gay people from having children. Those children will continue to be born and adopted regardless. It's too bad for children of gay parents in France that their government will not recognize their families and give them the legal benefits and protections that all children deserve. I think we are lucky that America is working on becoming more progressive.

  • Beautiful video! Lots of happy couples and families.

  • save marriage ban divorce, not gay marriage

  • thats because prop 8 is forcing values on same sex couples

  • no on 8 for equal rights
