Woww!! I was down in Mobile, ALA for this festival held @ Saenger Theater that week in 1984 with my teacher's ensemble!! Also in attendence was Ray Pizzi & Bobby Shew! All these cats were cool!! Thanks for sharing!!

Wow...used to deliver groceries to him when I was 14...great guy and musican...played with everybody and their mothers (so to speak)...he lived in the same building that Coleman Hawkins off of St Nich on the hill.

There is VHS concert "Benny Carter at the Smithsonian" that George is playing on, don´t know if it it´s out on DVD, but is well worth investigating.

Thank you. Met George Duvivier in the mid '60s at a recording session at Capitol Records (151 W. 46th St., NYC), a nice man. Impeccably dressed, and ready for work. I do not recognize him here, he had changed so much in just 20 years. Apparently, tho, his skills at the bass never diminished.

Any chance on a video of this anywhere? I am amazed. I just played with a guy who was very good friends of his and this is the first time I have witnessed George Duvivier play. Any instructional vids or concerts? I will look online but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a bio out there - I've got it somewhere - but I seem to remember it was expensive! Good luck with the search anyway

George Duvivier was probaly the most respected bassist in jazz. His sight reading was second to none and he was adept in any musical setting. He could swing, bop and bow on that bass. Besides, he was approachable and just a wonderful human being. Many thanks for posting this video.
