"completely meaningless plinky plonk 'oh my god' noises - why does anyone bother with it ?"
Why anyone bothers?
Because there are many important traditionally educated musicians and listeners in the world that have experienced that this isn't 'meaningless plinky plonk'.

@chickenringNYC - I didn't mean the auditorium was empty - I meant the music.

@richtomes Thanks for your enlightening comments. For your information, this was a rehearsal attended only by the press and by a handful of sound engineers whose job was to assist in balancing the three orchestras. The performances were both sold out and completely full, and we performed the piece twice back to back.

@richtomes oh hey troll welcome back

@richtomes It would seem that the reason why the majority stick with the more traditional is the "political reasons" that you mention, or more correctly put, popularity. Why are they celebrated? Because they cater to the wants of less-musically-sophisticated audiences, i.e. the majority. I have never heard of anyone doing this politically. One can't really conduct something like this without the sincerity to study this "nonsense," as you put it. Sincere because they recognize the true greatness.
Has the Lucerne Festival hosted a performance of Carré?

when you compare audience to musicians it's terrible. the music is good, shame it had to be so expensive

This is a rehearsal: the concert was completely sold out, both performances.

I cant understand how people fail to see the genius in stockhaussen's work, the dissonance/discord invokes a fantastic feeling of drama and suspense, he should be a requirement for anyone studying film scores, fantastic

Exactly.. this piece, although highly complex, is accessible from a dramatic standpoint. You may not understand the processes Stockhausen uses (I know I don't) but you can still feel a propulsive "emotional" drive to the piece. Not that Stockhausen intended that or anything, hah!
