From a 1983 BBC documentary series on martial arts. Although entitled "Tai Chi" this episode is a profile of Hung I Hsiang, a Taiwanese master of all three Chinese internal martial arts (Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Taijiquan)

  • @jsmall10671 but to be fair, if you want to perfect a technique like a jab for instance, you have to slow it down and break down the various components. that is why tai chi is practiced like this. If you were teaching a novice, you wouldnt show him ur fastest jab and hope he picks it up from that, its about understanding the body and how to move it with maximum efficiency. you do have to train to fight freestyle as well tho

  • Yes it does. Relaxation training allows you to have better control over your muscles. You think standing still/moving slowly without losing the movement's integrity is easy?

  • @jsmall10671 You are correct in saying that professional fighters do not box at 1/4 speed. However, how many years of training the body and mind do they go through before fighting? Tai Chi is first about understanding the way of things. Is violence to fulfill economic or egoistic goals something that a learned person undertakes?

  • You have got to be kidding me, there is no evidence whatsoever that any of this qi healing works. That's y u never see ANY of it in western hospitals. It's nice that the culture of this lives on , but to take it seriously as medicine or fighting arts is ludicrous. Moving at 1/4 speed doesn't prepare u to fight. Notice how NO professional fighters box at 1/4 speed?

  • It's so true the more you relax, the faster you can react and attack but still in a relaxed state so you change with your opponent like water....be like water my friend.

Andrew D. Ford MMA and traditional student.

  • A true Ba Gua master at the peak of his art. This an old fashion type of instructor. It might help to learn Mandarin Chinese to study from this great master. His Tai Chi Chuan is from the Yang Style.

A truly dedicated student of martial arts.

  • I really wish UFC was still elimination tournament with style against style rather than this MMA street fight crap. I used to follow them when the Gracies owned it, but you never saw a kung fu practiioner participate.

  • Thank you, Lingshu8. I am just starting Tai Chi Chuan Yang style for health. The history and benefits of the Chinese internal arts are numerous. Here in America, I am trying to find a qualified Tai Chi healing expert. I wish to learn the art of healing.
